]]>For the new or occasional instrument pilot, IFR flying can cause an enormous amount of anxiety.
It doesn’t have to be stressful, though. You can feel in control even as an inexperienced instrument pilot.
Instrument flying isn’t rocket science because it’s extremely predictable. Each phase of flight has the same set of radio calls, maneuvers, and requirements. The pros sound so good because they do the exact same thing all the time.
The pattern hardly ever varies.
If you learn and embrace the predictable patterns of instrument flying, you will lose that anxiety and begin to enjoy it.
The Instrument Pilot’s Survival Guide will walk you through the flow of a real instrument flight so you can anticipate ATC’s next move.
Life brings tests, trials, and disappointments that seem unbearable or just downright unfair; however, most people never voice these pains. Colors of Pain is merely the tip of the iceberg of pain that we as living, breathing, emotional wrecks go through from time to time. I believe this book is the voice for those without a voice. I implore you to read and understand that you are not alone in your journey to find happiness and meaning to your life.

But do they leave them at dream level or do things daily that ACTUALLY bring them into reality? In penny speak, do they turn their “$20-bill visions” into penny-sized pieces of action that will help them achieve their goals bit by bit? Life enthusiast Leslie Stein uncovers insights on discovering our hidden “$20-bill visions” by paying attention to the tiny, small, & previously unnoticed moments (the metaphorical pennies of our lives). Each chapter uncovers a new perspective about why little things matter...perhaps more than the big ones. Penny Perspectives takes you on a journey of discovery to find life lessons in the ordinary using the most unlikely of teachers...abandoned coins. Step over them & keep living as you always have. Start picking them up and see that everything you truly want has been right beneath your feet all along. In this book, Leslie Stein combines the humor, inspiration, & intelligence that helped her turn a curiosity for picking up pennies into a movement that collected thousands of dollars for do-gooders & charities working to create change in their local communities. It is a book that will have you asking, “Am I choosing perspectives that will help me live the life I want?” “Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, we do in life comes down to a choice of perspective.” --Leslie Stein

Lori, Maura, Anne, and Amelia's journey into a male-dominated army are chronicled in this exciting, page-turning adventure, as they face the challenges of being accepted into an army that is struggling to integrate women.
"Refined by Fire" shares the women's uncertainty, frustration, and friendship, while accurately depicting the challenges both the academy cadets and active-duty lieutenants encountered in the United States Army of the mid-1970s. "Refined by Fire," the first novel in the Guardians of Peace historical fiction series by Ruth VanDyke and Yvonne Doll, weaves a tale of young women surviving and thriving in sometimes difficult and completely uncharted circumstances.
]]>General David Petraeus is the most transformative leader the American military has seen since the generation of Marshall. In the New York Timesbestseller All In, military expert Paula Broadwell examines Petraeus's career, his intellectual development as a military officer, and his impact on the U.S. military.
Afforded extensive access by General Petraeus, his mentors, his subordinates, and his longtime friends, Broadwell reported on the front lines of fighting and at the strategic command in Afghanistan to chronicle the experiences of this American general as they were brought to bear in the terrible crucible of war. All In draws on hundreds of hours of exclusive interviews with Petraeus and his top officers and soldiers to tell the inside story of this commander's development and leadership in war.
When Petraeus assumed command in Afghanistan in July 2010, the conflict looked as bleak as at any moment in America's nine years on the ground there. Petraeus's defining idea—counterinsurgency—was immediate put to its most difficult test: the hard lessons learned during the surge in Iraq were to be applied in a radically different theater. All In examines the impact in Afghanistan of new counterinsurgency as well as counterterrorism strategies through the commands of several Petraeus protégés.
Broadwell examines his evolution as a solider from his education at West Point in the wake of Vietnam to his earlier service in Central America, Haiti, Kuwait, Bosnia, and Iraq. All In also documents the general's role in the war in Washington, going behind the scenes of negotiations during policy reviews of the war in Afghanistan in Congress, the Pentagon, and the White House.
Broadwell ultimately appraises Petraeus's impact on the entire U.S. military: Thanks to this man's influence, the military is better prepared to fight using a comprehensive blend of civil-military activities. As America surveys a decade of untraditional warfare, this much is clear: The career of General David Petraeus profoundly shaped our military and left an indelible mark on its rising leaders.

]]>Soojung Jo
"I was born in South Korea and named Soojung. I was three years old when I arrived in the US to be adopted by an American family and renamed Raina. At twenty-five I gave birth to the first of three children, and at thirty-three I adopted one more from China. I was thirty-six when I learned the identity of my Korean mother, or omma, and thirty-seven when I learned that my Korean father was her kidnapper and rapist..."
So begins Ghost of Sangju, which takes readers from Soojung's childhood in Kentucky filled with joy, family, friendship--and the loneliness of being marked as an outsider even in her own home--to her return to Korea and the family that lost her. Alternating between humor and heartbreak, she offers a glimpse into a life foreign to most: that of a West Point cadet and her return to South Korea, the country that had once sent her away. Soojung vividly paints a portrait of marriage, parenthood (as both a biological and adoptive mother) and the tumultuous emotions of reuniting, rediscovering, and reestablishing lost familial bonds. Ghost of Sangju is a story of one woman's journey to merge her two selves, and the universal search for self-discovery, identity, and reconciliation.

Explore your emotional responses as you complete unique poems with first line prompts provided on each page and space to reflect on your inspiration. There are 366 pages (because every year should have an extra day!) numbered simply 1-366 with space for you to fill in your own day and date (because you don’t need the stress of a daily requirement).Use the first line of 5 syllables to inspire a thought or memory, and then complete the haiku on the next two lines with 7 syllables on the middle line and 5 syllables on the last line.
There’s no need to consider rhyme at all. Some of the starters are quite silly (haiku can amuse), but some may take you to poignant places. In some cases, your haiku starter is just one five-syllable word, so don’t let that throw you. As with other multi-word starters, think about the word and what it might mean to you. Don’t worry about punctuation, and don’t think that each line should be a complete sentence; your whole poem might be a single seventeen-syllable sentence. Your last line may come as a surprise to you. If it does, you’ve captured a more complex essence of haiku! On every 10th page you’ll find a vague TOPIC suggestion instead of a completed first line. These pages are designed to give you complete creative freedom for the full 17 syllables. Once you’ve completed your haiku, spend just a few minutes jotting down (in narrative form, as you would in a journal) what inspired your haiku. Allow yourself to laugh or cry or wonder. Haiku can provoke powerful emotions. Go ahead and doodle in the margins if you'd like! This is your workbook. At the end of the book you’ll find complete examples of haiku written by guest contributors. If the 366 pages in this journal just aren’t enough for you, feel free to use some of their first lines—or last lines—to start your own unique poem. Develop a fun, stress-free writing habit. And remember: Haikus can amuse Discipline your chatterbox Express succinctly!

It started out as a simple Bucket List goal but became much, much more. Bold Moves chronicles Diane's journey as a first time marathoner. Aiming to be a “one and done,” the training journey takes Diane through some surprises as she discovers the parallels of running and facing life's struggles. Bold Moves is an inspirational story that will prod readers to assess the items lingering on their Bucket List. If Diane can turn her dreams into reality, why can't you?
]]>Based on the author's own experiences as a cadet at the exclusive United States Military Academy at West Point, Battle Dress is the brutally honest tale of seventeen-year-old Andi Davis, who views her acceptance at West Point as a chance to escape her dysfunctional family and prove to herself that she has what it takes to survive The Beast, insider terminology for Basic Training. But nothing could have prepared Andi for the rigors that follow, nor for the inner strength that she will need to succeed as a woman in a nearly all-male society. Compelling and powerful, but never militaristic, this is a tale of triumph that won't fail to move readers.
]]>Porcelain on Steel is an insider's tour of one of America's most storied institutions and shares with the reader what it takes to succeed in the high-pressure, high-performance, high-testosterone lab that produces leaders for the Army and for our Nation. In an era where the American public is saturated with women selling sexuality, this book highlights those who, blessed with strong character traits, use them to make a positive contribution to society. Leadership is a matter of character; leadership is matter of how to be, not how to do it. Leadership is something that is instilled in you-and great leaders in turn instill the ability in others.
The women in Porcelain on Steel exemplify this-for all ages and wisdom for all time. Their qualities and strength of character would lead to success in any era but most importantly, their stories are especially relevant now, in today's times. This is a book for your daughter, your sister, your best friend, and most of all, yourself. *** The women in Porcelain on Steel are genuine role models. America's youth, whether male or female, as well as parents in search of stories of inspiration, courage, loyalty, public service and leadership that set a positive direction for our young people, should read this book. This is a powerful and inspirational portrait of the women who serve-not just our country, but their families, their communities, and their own commitment to a purposeful and meaningful life. These women, like the author Donna McAleer herself, had the courage and strength to attend West Point-the toughest and most elite military school in the nation-and have the heart and soul to be role models for women everywhere. We can find courage in their courage, faith in their faith, and our own best selves in them. West Point is an indispensible institution that has helped sustain our democracy for more than 200 years. About the Author: Donna McAleer graduated from West Point in 1987 and served as an Army Officer. Actively involved in the West Point community, she serves as Class President and is an Admissions Field Representative. Donna was elected to the boards of directors of the West Point Association of Graduates, the West Point Women's Network, and is an advisor to West-Point.org. She is the co-founder of Bugle Notes, an on-line community for West Point graduates and cadets. (www.buglenotes.com). She earned a master's degree from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration, University of Virginia. An outdoor enthusiast with a particular passion for skiing, Donna lives in Park City, Utah with Ted, her husband, Carlyn Ann, their daughter and Col. (ret) Thayer, their dog. Porcelain on Steel is her first book.
]]>After nine months of pregnancy and the miracle of childbirth, you may find yourself waiting for another miracle: the return of your pre-pregnancy body.
Your post-pregnancy body not only looks unfamiliar, it also feels unfamiliar. Getting your body back after pregnancy means not just getting a flat belly but also getting back the way you move, the way you cope, the way you find the strength to face the day, and it means inspiring a lifetime love of movement in your little one. After you have a baby, you'll benefit more from exercise than at any other time in your life. But it isn't easy.
Exercise after pregnancy is complicated by sleep deprivation, fatigue, breastfeeding, new responsibilities, and a multitude of other challenges. Finding guidance is also confusing, from the advice of friends who seem to magically return to their pre-pregnancy wardrobe to the exercise secrets, workout fads, and quick techniques available through books, magazines, and the internet.
The truth is, there is no magic. There are no secrets. Even better, there's scientific research decades of it that covers topics critical to recovery from pregnancy and childbirth. There is research to dispel myths about breastfeeding and exercise, research that covers the details of pregnancy's effects on the body, research to detail postpartum biomechanics, research to show the benefits of exercise for mothers and their babies, and research to guide the prevention and treatment of the most common injuries for new moms. The only trouble is, that research is squirreled away in a variety of medical journals, out of sight for the everyday mom.
For the first time, that research is synthesized into a comprehensive guide for new moms. This book, written by Dr. Christine Iverson, a Doctor of Physical Therapy, athlete, and mom of two, lays that information out in an easy-to-follow guide with a step-by-step exercise progression. Christine will be your physical therapist next door, there to help you to fix your own body in a systematic, comprehensive, progressive, and challenging way from the inside out after giving birth.
]]>On March 21, 2003, Army Lieutenant and West Point graduate Laura Westley invaded liberated Iraq (the Army prohibited using the word “invasion”) with the full intention of keeping her virginity securely intact. For twenty-four years, she had obeyed the strict teachings of evangelical Christianity and kept her legs closed, vowing to preserve her purity for her future husband. Being at war, however, made her realize that adhering to strict religious principles perhaps wasn’t worth it, not when bombs, RPGs and gunfire constantly threaten to cut your life short.
WAR VIRGIN is a coming-of-age memoir that chronicles Laura’s journey through repression, temptation, and ultimately, liberation. This “war story” describes a woman’s battle to discover, protect and own her unique identity. No veteran or West Point graduate has ever offered such a candid, irreverent look at the comically naughty, sexually charged underbelly of the military.
]]>Jan Wishart starts cow (junior) year at West Point in Airborne School. Terrified of heights, she narrowly escapes an accident that later turns deadly for another jumper. With a third death in as many years associated with her, Jan returns to West Point under a cloud of suspicion. Ominous signs left for her to find cause Jan to lose a precious and necessary requirement for survival at West Point: sleep. With her mental state in question, a masked intruder makes nocturnal visits to her room. Or is she imagining that? Events escalate to the point of no return for Jan and her two best friends. When they swear an oath of loyalty to each other, they have no idea how much it will cost to fulfill that vow. Leadership always requires sacrifice. So does loyalty. And sometimes, one virtue must yield to the other.
]]>A memoir that appeals to a broad audience to include: civilians, veterans, educators, healthcare providers and families alike in hopes to enlighten and encourage those suffering and those treating someone with invisible wounds.
The story takes the reader from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan, through the military and civilian psychiatric systems, and finally to the fight that remains on the home front. Carolyn's journey follows her lingering battle over the course of a decade that leaves the medical community and her family struggling for answers and an accurate diagnosis and treatment that will alleviate her symptoms. Her chance encounter with a doctor in her home town eleven years after she returns home from the desert leads to long sought after answers and a successful treatment plan that has finally released her from the mental health struggles that held her back for so many years. Carolyn and her providers now hope to share her story with others and bring her diagnosis to the forefront of the psychiatric community so others may benefit. Carolyn's resilience and internal drive are evident throughout the story. The reader will easily follow and embrace her narrative and find her honesty and raw emotions capturing yet inspirational. "If this story helps just one it will have been worth it" A portion of the sale of each book will be donated to the non-profit organization: Athena's Sisters. The group seeks to help and empower women veterans struggling with physical and mental wounds and guide them to appropriate resources, treatment and help in their communities.
